The hand drawn style of lettering and illustration is particularly popular in certain underground circles and communities. One of the most popular is the custom motorcycle culture, with retro and vintage artwork being designed for custom garage or club logos, posters and apparel. This post showcases 20 cool motorcycle themed illustrations that all feature the gritty and grainy style of old hand crafted prints.

PixelKit is home to an extensive collection of high quality UI kits and design resources. Every kit is based on the 960 grid system and is constructed using PSD vector graphics, which means the elements will be a breeze to implement into your own projects. There’s already thousands of GUI elements available to download and new kits are added every month. Here’s a few great looking kits that stood out to me:

Illustrating with basic linework not only results in some really cool artwork, it also makes the job a lot easier! Instead of painstakingly drawing every detail, simplifying the object into its basic form and using just a single stroke weight produces a stylised pictogram effect. In this tutorial I’ll take you through the process of using this basic linework technique to create a cool motorcycle illustration.

Often when post-processing a photograph the aim is to carefully fine tune the levels and colour balance to capture the real life scene, but sometimes it’s worth taking the edits a little further to enhance an image with hyper realistic effects. Applying colour casts, increasing the contrast and adding lighting effects can give an image an intense mood just like we see in magazines or on billboards.

  • Earlier this year I began to watch AMC's The Killing which was set in Pacific Northwest.  One thing I kept seeing was Haida art which as a child I always enjoyed because it was simple yet creepy but told a story.  While considering doing a little pasty white guy version study, I got a project from Red Bull to create some art for Steve Smith for his helmet and the request was Haida inspired art.  Everything lined up and really enjoyed doing these pieces.  There is a oddness with a me being a designer / illustrator from Florida doing something that has historical value and represents a culture.  Hopefully I did this project justice since I have and will always respect the Haida.
